Best Nintendo Switch games launching this June

Even with its age and the inevitable reveal of Nintendo’s next console sometime this fiscal year, Nintendo and third-parties are still all-in on supporting the handheld-hybrid console. With some nifty events on the way, including a Nintendo Direct sometime in June, though, no mention of the new console will be present. Without further ado, though, let’s see what June has to offer.

Star Wars: Hunters

Earmarked as one of the first mainstream games releasing in June, Zynga and NaturalMotion’s Star Wars: Hunters is a squad-arena fighter with a Star Wars flavor. Play as a myriad of new characters and clash with fellow Switch players as well as those on mobile devices.

After a tech demo earlier this year, it’s finally been solidified when the game will release. Hopefully, it can make better waves than Battlefront Classic Collection…

Star Wars: Hunters launches June 4, priced at the tantalizing fee of free on the Nintendo Switch. It’ll also be available on mobile devices.

Fireside

Debuting the same day as Star Wars: Hunters, Fireside is vastly different. Featuring an interactive narrative with a focus on bonding with your fellow travelers, Emergo Entertainment’s fantasy crafting adventure looks like something that could easily go under the radar if you aren’t careful.

It helps that it seems to have a pleasant art style and simple mechanics that most anyone can enjoy.

Fireside launches June 4 on the Nintendo Switch, the price hasn’t been disclosed. It will also be available on PC.

Monster Hunter Stories

In early 2024, Capcom announced that it would be remastering Monster Hunter Stories for a summer 2024 launch. Well, it’s summer 2024 and that day is neigh. Originally released on the 3DS, Monster Hunter Stories sees you take on the role of a Monster Rider rather than a Hunter, meaning you aren’t out for blood but rather to form bonds with your monsties.

Overhauling the gameplay of previous MH games, Stories lets you fight in turn-based combat, ride your companion monsties around the overworld, and care for eggs found throughout the game. It might sound boring compared to the traditional fare Capcom releases, but its charmingly colorful art style and overhauled gameplay gives people a different way to enjoy the series.

Monster Hunter Stories launches June 14 on the Nintendo Switch, priced at $29.99. It will also be available on PlayStation 4 and PC.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble

In a series first, Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble engages players into online battles across multiple modes. Game modes like Race task you with reaching the finish line first while Banana Hunt and Robot Smash see up to 16 players race to collect the most bananas and work together to obliterate the robotic adversities respectively.

If that isn’t your speed, Sega’s also got Adventure mode, which includes support for up to four online (or local) players to engross themselves in 200 brand-spanking-new levels. Customize your monkey (and their respective ball) with over 300 options to choose from.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble launches June 25 on exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, priced at $49.99.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD

Return to Evershade Valley and find out what’s going on with ghosts that reside within. Originally released a decade in 2011 (feel old yet?) under the title Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, this release takes it to a whole new level of… well… high-definition.

Face off against once-friendly spectral entities who have suddenly lost their friendly nature in Nintendo’s latest re-release with a new coat of HD paint. Move through the slew of mansions all with puzzles to solve and ghosts to brawl with your Poltergust 5000.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD launches June 27 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, priced at $59.99.
