Best Nintendo Switch games launching this March

The Switch is coming close to its seventh year anniversary this March. Smash Jump also recently reported that the Switch successor may be delayed into early 2025. Yet, the hybrid-handheld shows no signs of stopping. This is especially true when we consider the variety of the most anticipated upcoming March releases. These show that there is still plenty of life left in the venerable Switch.

Berserk Boy is a high-speed pixel-art shooter that draws inspiration from the classic Mega Man games. It brings the retro style to the modern age and infuses it with 2D Metroidvania elements. Change into different forms, and use the power of Lightning, Fire, Earth, Air, and Ice to save the planet from Dr. Genos!

We can’t get enough of indie platformers and Berserk Boy looks like an inventive take on the Metroidvania sub-genre, featuring high-octane gameplay and mesmerizing levels. We are especially impressed by the art style and the passion put on display by the very small developer team. This one should be on your radar.

Berserk Boy launches March 6, priced at $20.

Get ready for a blast-from-the-past! Contra: Operation Galuga is a reimagining of the classic run ‘n’ gun NES/arcade game from the 1980s. Play as elite Contra commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean as they spring into action against the Red Falcon terrorist group and their takeover of the Galuga Islands. The game features intense co-op combat for up to two players in Story Mode or four players in Arcade Mode.

Publisher Konami is banking on ’80s nostalgia and a heavy dose of action mayhem in the hopes of reigniting the interest in the Contra franchise. Will this prove successful? The demo is out now for free on the Nintendo Store to help you decide that.

Contra: Operation Galuga releases March 12, priced at a discounted $35.99 until March 26.

Kingdom Come Deliverance: Royal Edition is a port of the acclaimed Action RPG set in medieval Bohemia. It follows the story of Henry and his quest to avenge his family and friends in the midst of a civil war. The title features a massive realistic open world where castles, forests, and fields are explorable. Kingdom Come Deliverance also sets itself apart from other games through its realistic non-linear story and consequences. The Royal Edition contains Kingdom Come Deliverance and all released DLCs.

Porting Kingdom Come Deliverance to the Switch is an impressive undertaking given its scope. The title will no doubt test the Switch hardware. We are especially curious to see how developers Saber Interactive will succeed in keeping this port faithful to previous platform releases while also integrating Switch features. There may be some medieval magic involved to make that happen…

Kingdom Come Deliverance: Royal Edition comes out March 15, priced at $49.99.

Unicorn Overlord is one of the most anticipated titles of early 2024… and it is easy to see why. It is developed by Vanillaware, creators of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Odin Sphere, with the hope of marking the “rebirth of tactical fantasy RPG.” Those words are not just thrown out there when it comes to these talented people. Unicorn Overlord combines the tactical RPG genre with overworld exploration and an innovative battle system featuring the possibility to build a grand army with over 60 unique characters, from humans and elves to massive beasts and heavenly angels. The story follows Alain, prince of Cornia, as he flees from his home during a coup against the royal family. Will Alain succeed in bringing freedom to his people? The time draws nearer for us to find that out.

Unicorn Overlord truly stands out among the March releases. It promises to revive the tactical RPG genre, a genre that has long been due for a revamp. Can Vanillaware pull this off? The free to play demo is out now on the Nintendo Store for you to try. I say things are looking mighty promising…

Unicorn Overlord launches March 8, priced at $59.99.

Princess Peach is back with a vengeance and this time she takes the spotlight (sorry Mario)! Madame Grape has taken over Sparkle Theater and it’s up to Princess Peach to save the day (and play). Transform into a sword fighter, detective, cowgirl, and don other outfits each with special abilities.

This is Nintendo’s only Switch exclusive release for March, but what a treat this is! The title looks charming and beautifully animated, often reminding its audience of the soft lighting and gorgeous graphics featured in Luigi’s Mansion 3, one of the graphical showpieces for the Switch. Princess Peach fans will be extremely happy to see their heroine become the main protagonist again since 2005’s Super Princess Peach. We say it’s about time!

Princess Peach: Showtime! launches March 22, priced at $59.99.
