Best sent for scans on way in to NSW Origin camp

Bradman Best has been sent for scans on a tight hamstring in an early injury concern for NSW ahead of State of Origin III.

Recalled for next Wednesday’s decider in place of the injured Latrell Mitchell, Best reported hamstring tightness to medical staff.

The Blues have since opted to send him for scans on the way in to camp on Monday morning but are hopeful the injury is not serious.

Best was viewed as an obvious choice for coach Michael Maguire at left centre, with the 22-year-old offering a similar body shape to Mitchell.

“Bradman will bring what Bradman brings,” Maguire said.

“Especially his development in the past 12 months, and sitting with Bradman, how he sees his game and his professionalism.

“He is a real pro about what he does. I talk to the staff up there and they say how diligent he is about how he gets everything right.”

NSW also confirmed that Matt Burton would be 18th man for the Suncorp Stadium decider, while the dropped Haumole Olakau’atu will act as a reserve.

Luke Keary will also also join the camp during the week as the third reserve.
