Blair, Clarke lead GFL goal kickers at country championships

Boulder star Brett Blair and Kalgoorlie’s Dylan Clarke were the Goldfields Football League’s best forwards at the annual country championships that finished on Sunday.

Blair emerged from the GFL’s four games in the top division with six goals, tied with Upper Great Southern’s Lloyd Padwick.

It included a three-goal haul in the side’s victory against Upper Great Southern on Saturday.

Blair and Padwick trailed only South-West’s Cooper Clarke-Dehring (seven goals) among the division’s leading goal kickers.

Clarke missed the opening two games, but kicked three in the remaining clashes against South-West and Upper Great Southern as the only other GFL player in the top 10.

The GFL trio of Jordan Strahan, Jake Nuich and Nick Reghenzani emerged from the series with a combined five goals.

Esperance made Sunday’s division three final but lost to Great Southern, 7.7 (49) to 3.4 (22).

Great Southern were unbeaten at the carnival after also beating Esperance on Saturday by the same 27-point margin.
