Bochum appoint Zeidler after surviving in Bundesliga

Bochum have hired Peter Zeidler as their new coach after only just surviving in the Bundesliga via a penalty shoot-out.

Zeidler is a 61-year-old German who hasn’t worked as a head coach in his home country since the 2007-08 season, and never in the Bundesliga. He has coached in France and Austria and is now leaving Swiss club St Gallen after six years in charge, most recently finishing fifth.

Zeidler takes over at Bochum from caretaker coach Heiko Butscher, who oversaw Bochum’s remarkable comeback from 3-0 down in a promotion-relegation play-off to beat Fortuna Duesseldorf in a penalty shoot-out last week. Bochum had finished 16th in the 18-team league to end up in the play-off.

Bochum are heading into their fourth consecutive season in the Bundesliga since promotion in 2021.
