Borderlands 3 Fustercluck DLC Hints Return of a Fan-Favorite Character Back from the Dead That Can Majorly Impact the Sequel

Gearbox’s sci-fi role-playing first-person shooter series Borderlands is no stranger to crazy ideas. In fact, these games are known for their over-the-top, crazy ideas. They have numerous guns; each of those guns is different from the other, and they have vast planets that players can explore as they complete quests and side quests for different NPCs.

But the story of these games is such that characters often end up dying in them. Besides a few mainstay characters, it’s rare to see characters get carried over to the next game. This is what happened when the most recent game in the series, Borderlands 3, launched. A character has returned and has caused havoc amongst fans awaiting a sequel.

It Looks Like Borderlands 4 Might Bring a Major Character Back in a New Avatar

One thing cannot be denied: Gearbox makes incredibly good-looking games. While the writing of Borderlands 3 is a bit shaky, the game was fun to play, and its essence was not lost. The guns were there, and those gory headshots too.

There were a bunch of villains and a lot of quirky characters spewing funny dialogue. If one looks over the silly, serviceable writing of this game, then Borderlands 3 was a masterpiece. It looked incredible, and it played even better.

The story was there, but as mentioned above, it was average at best, but it did something shocking: it killed an important character. In Borderlands 2, fans are met with Maya, who is a siren. She has mysterious powers, and she is a playable character in that game.

By the time players reach Borderlands 3, she becomes an NPC, and she eventually passes on, handing all her powers to Ava. She is killed in a brutal manner, too. Troy Calypso, one of the twins, surprises her by leeching all of her power and killing her in the process.

She dies but saves Ava in the process. Now one can say that this was not a bad ending to her story; dying to save an important person’s life is enough to be called a hero. But it appears Maya did not just go away; she remained.

In DLC Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, Vault expert Patricia Tannis tries to analyze Krieg’s brain. This is done by using a portal to enter his consciousness and find out what made him mad. But what they find is something mind-blowing: they see Maya.

She is not in her normal form, and she is just there a number of times, and one must agree that this changes a lot of things. This goes to show that maybe sirens in the Borderlands series can thrive without their bodies too. They basically find a way to cling to the world and never leave it.

It is suggested that she clung to Krieg due to her unbreakable bond with the psycho. He was not very happy about her passing, and her last Echo note to him was pretty heartbreaking too.

“So if I go, just know that I’ll see you in the stars, Big Guy. I promise.”

Now one cannot help but wonder if she will be seen in Borderlands 4 or not. Her being in that sequence definitely means something for the next game in the series.

Maybe Gearbox Would Make Her the Joker?

One cannot help but wonder if Gearbox would use Maya in the next game, just as Rocksteady used Joker in Arkham Knight. Joker passes in Batman Arkham City, yet he comes back in Arkham Knight in an interesting way. They put him inside Batman’s brain, where he can be seen altering Batman’s actions.

Maya might end up doing something similar to Krieg in the next game. Maybe she would fix him and stop him from doing those silly, stupid things that a psycho usually does.
