Brooke Narelle Hicks: Manslaughter charge over fatal Jurien Bay hit-and-run of Alexx Wright dropped
A woman accused of a hit-and-run that killed a 19-year-old on a notorious road north of Perth has had her manslaughter charge dropped.
Police alleged that Brooke Narelle Hicks, 46, was the driver of the vehicle that hit Alexx Wright on Indian Ocean Drive near Jurien Bay about 5.40am on May 26, 2024.
Police said that Ms Wright had stepped out of a van and died at the scene.
Hicks was initially charged with failing to stop and ensure assistance after an incident occasioning death and failing to report an incident occasioning death, then manslaughter months later.
But in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday, State prosecutors discontinued the latter charge, saying there were no reasonable prospects of conviction.

Hicks appeared via phone from home, having attended Jurien Bay Police Station but left suffering nausea and a headache, with the magistrate deeming her “absent for reasonable cause”.
Her lawyer said that he did not yet have full instructions from his client but she would likely plead guilty to two other charges, which will be heard in Perth Magistrates Court on February 26 for a mention.
Hicks had her bail renewed.
