Bushfire emergency warning in place for southern parts of Greater Geraldton, residents told to shelter
Fire crews are battling an emergency bushfire that has broken out south of Geraldton, with some residents warned it is too late to leave.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has issued a bushfire emergency warning for people in an area north of Walkaway-Nangetty Road, south of Minnenooka Road and west of Philpot Road covering parts of Walkaway, Minnenooka, and Ellendale.
Residents in the affected are were being told the fire poses a risk to lives and homes, and to identify a room in their house with running water and a clear exit to shelter.

According to DFES, the fire is moving in a south easterly direction, and is not contained or controlled.
Firefighters are on the scene and are actively fighting the blaze.
The fire was reported to authorities just after 11am on Thursday.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, and refer to Main Roads WA for any closures in place.
