Cable Beach Triathlon: Aleisha Wesley first female across the line for second year running

Aleisha Wesley successfully defended her title at the Cable Beach Triathlon, crossing the finish line in 2:10:53 to take the women’s elite crown for the second consecutive year.

She outpaced Kate Bevilaqua, who finished in 2:12:21, and Madi Toovey, who secured third with a time of 2:13:44.

In the men’s elite race, Reece Harris claimed victory with a time of 1:51:58.50, edging out Matt Burton, who finished at 1:52:19.89 but struggled during the run.

Guy Crawford placed third in 2:00:15.50. Athletes faced tough conditions, with a choppy swim and intense heat during the run.

The event began on Friday with the 5km Sunset Dash for Cash, where Matt Smith won the male elite race in 15:43.86. In the women’s elite category, Madi Toovey claimed victory in 20:14.94.

The Charity Fun Run, held alongside the Dash for Cash, raised $500 for bowel cancer awareness with 51 participants.

Saturday saw the debut of the 600m open water swim, where Ben Goldie won the male open race in 8:44.42, and Ellen Smith topped the female open division in 9:35.29.

Junior standout Felix Carroll dominated the male junior race, finishing in 7:44.38.

Sunday’s triathlon featured 179 competitors across several categories. In the male open division, Chad McKay took first place with a time of 2:14:12.88, while Amie Thompson won the female open division in 2:25:27.85.

The weekend concluded with the Beer Mile, raising an additional $674 for bowel cancer charities.

With over 255 athletes competing across three days, the Cable Beach Triathlon raised more than $1200 for charity.

The 2025 Cable Beach Triathlon is scheduled for July 18 to 20.
