Call of Duty 2025 Reportedly a Return to Modern Warfare 4 Instead of Black Ops 7 Has Fans Worried for the Future of the Franchise
The COD community is eagerly anticipating the release of Black Ops 6 in October and has already started discussing which addition they’ll be getting in 2025. With the strong momentum that the upcoming game has been building, many are hopeful that this success will continue next year.
However, it seems that things won’t go as expected. Recent leaks suggest that Black Ops 7 won’t be coming in 2025. Instead, Modern Warfare 4, developed by Infinity Ward, is slated for release that year.
Call of Duty Fans Will Not Get Black Ops 7 in 2025
In 2023, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III‘s cloudy launch led to poor sales, a Metascore of 56, a User Score of 2.2, and harsh criticism from its fanbase.
Here, developer studios Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games faced severe backlash. Despite tons of updates in a pretty short time, the negative perceptions about the game never went away.
Thankfully, fans’ demand for solid playthroughs will be met with the release of Black Ops 6, developed by Treyarch and Raven Software. The game has received positive feedback during development and is expected to maintain this momentum at launch.
That said, loyal fans have taken to social media to express their desire for this momentum to continue into 2025 with the release of a new Black Ops 7.
However, recent leaks have disappointed the fans, revealing that there won’t be a Black Ops game next year. Instead, we’ll see the release of Modern Warfare 4, which will be developed by Infinity Ward.
Sadly, fans were disappointed by the leak and criticized the studio, saying that Infinity Ward would undo all the positive progress and ruin everything.
Some argued that if next year’s Call of Duty included a Modern Warfare installment, it would mean three MW releases in four years, making the leak seem illogical.
Some went a step further, stating that they would continue playing Black Ops 6 until another game developed by Treyarch and Raven Software is released, effectively closing the door on Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games.
Why Are Fans Resentful of the Modern Warfare Series?
It should be said that the fan base is not negative towards the Modern Warfare series. In the past, there were very successful works developed by Infinity Ward, but the fact that Modern Warfare 3 in 2023 was a fiasco increased the prejudices towards the series.
Many fans argued that the main reason behind the game’s failure was its short campaign, while others felt that the developers barely worked on it, suggesting it was more of an average expansion pack.
Many reasons like these led to the game falling short of success and being regarded as one of the worst in the series.
