Call Of Duty Developer Sledgehammer Games May Be Working On The Next Halo Game

They were the OG studio who took CoD to proper futuristic setting in Advanced Warfare (ignoring the near-futuristic settings in BO2 and Ghost).

The futuristic trend peaked with Infinite Warfare with Inifnity Ward taking CoD literally to space. It got the infamous flak during reveal coz it was the third consecutive CoD to be set in space but after release it’s campaign was found to be the best out of the three future CoDs i.e AW, BOIII and IW.

Now Infinity Ward is sticking with modern day setting with Modern Warfare and is the main tech studio of CoD (engine innovation and lot), Treyarch is sticking with Black Ops story and is the main MP gameplay studio of CoD, Raven handles Warzone now (even though they used to be one of the best non-CoD single-player FPS studio at Activision) …. So that leaves Sledgehammer only, who’s last two CoD developments were tumultuous, ColdWar required Treyarch to step in and Vanguard was rushed and not well-liked. So, they might’ve offered to do other non-CoD development under the bigger MS umbrella and temporarily opted to veer away from the packed CoD dev-cycle for a while.
