Can You Recruit Yourself in Starfield?

In Starfield, one of the cool things about playing in New Game Plus is that you get to experience new and different versions of the universe. Usually, in the fourth or fifth version of NG+, you might come across alternate versions of some members of the supporting cast.

This even includes meeting an alternate version of yourself, with a few small changes that are randomly generated. But can you recruit this alternate self? It’s definitely possible, but not exactly guaranteed.

Yes, You Can Recruit a Version of Yourself in Starfield

Starfield‘s NG+ variations might be worth checking out.

Once you’ve reached the end main questline of Starfield and traveled to Unity as part of the final mission, the next adventure kicks off in a brand-new universe as part of the game’s multiverse concept.

This time, things might not be exactly like before. There are a lot of differences you’ll notice, and one of those differences could be meeting your alternate self at the Constellation Lodge.

The chance to recruit your alternate self only happens randomly, and it’s not guaranteed. You might need to save and reload the game and re-enter the Unity several times in NG+ to have a shot at meeting them.

Plenty of players have noted that this is a very rare occurrence, and usually happens after the fourth or fifth time you’ve started an NG+ run.

Once you do, there’s a conversation where you can try to convince the alternative version of yourself to join you as a crew member on your ship. Whether they agree depends on how you approach the conversation, but it’s definitely possible depending on your persuasion skills.

This alternate version of you has similar combat skills and abilities to the player, making them a useful addition to your crew.

Alternate Universes in Starfield

The multiverse concept isn’t quite as fleshed out in the game.

In Starfield’s NG+ mode, players are thrown into an alternate version of the universe each time they complete the game and start over. While most of these universes are pretty similar, some of them can have major differences.

Tip

The likelihood of noticeable and worthwhile alternatives popping up in each NG+ run is relatively low.

For example, other players have found that the entire Constellation crew is dead, retired, or even evil in some cases, like Andreja. The game plays with the concept of the multiverse, where small changes or major ones can pop up each time you go through the NG+ cycle, but the likelihood of these drastic changes actually happening is pretty low.

One of the coolest aspects is that you might meet not just one alternate version of yourself but multiple.

But no matter how different the universe is, you’ll still be able to continue the story and complete your journey, although it might not make a lot of sense from a narrative standpoint.

The player character is supposed to be the same, and has all of the knowledge of the events from the previous playthrough, yet does nothing different. This could’ve easily been improved with some newer dialogue and gameplay choices in NG+.

So, while it’s not guaranteed that you’ll meet your alternate self on every NG+ playthrough, it’s definitely something to look forward to in case it happens.
