Cancellations, closings and delays in Hampton Roads and on Outer Banks due to winter storm
The winter storm moving across the United States, bringing frigid temperatures to the East Coast, is causing some delays and cancellations in Hampton Roads.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for parts of Hampton Roads and northeast North Carolina from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Chesapeake
All offices and facilities will operate on a delayed opening of 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Expect delays in trash collection.
All courts will be closed on Wednesday.

Hampton
All offices and facilities, including libraries and community centers, will be delayed until 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

HRT
All Hampton Roads Transit Services will be delayed Wednesday. All bus, light rail, ferry, paratransit and OnDemand ridesharing services, as well as the Base Express serving Naval Station Norfolk, are expected to begin at 8 a.m.
The Elizabeth River Ferry is scheduled to begin from High Street in Portsmouth at 8 a.m.
Bookings for OnDemand ridesharing in Newport News and Virginia Beach will be available starting at 8 a.m.

Norfolk
After-school activities at Norfolk Public Schools have been canceled Tuesday. However, after-school child care programs will remain open.
All city facilities will close at 6 p.m.
On-street parking will be removed beginning at 6 p.m. to allow for plowing operations. This includes parking along Waterside Drive, Boush, Main and Granby streets. York Street Garage is open for residents and businesses downtown and will remain open until 9 a.m. Thursday.

Outer Banks
Currituck County: All county government offices will operate on a delayed opening of 10 a.m. Wednesday. Also opening at 10 a.m. will be the Currituck Library branches, trash and recycling convenience centers and the transfer station. The Currituck County Board of Commissioners meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday has been canceled, although the board will have a 5 p.m. work session. The Parks and Recreation Department has canceled all games and practices.
Dare County: All county offices will be closed Wednesday. There will be no trash collection on Wednesday. Regular collection will resume Thursday. The Dare County C&D Landfill, Buxton Transfer Station and the Manteo Recycle Yard will be closed Wednesday, with an expected reopening on Thursday. Parks & Recreation facilities’ (Hatteras Island Division Fessenden Center, Northern Beach Division and Roanoke Island Main Division) activities are canceled beginning at 5 p.m. They are expected to resume Thursday depending on conditions. All scheduled programming at the Virginia S. Tillet Community Center and Baum Senior Center are canceled beginning at 5 p.m. Programs and activities are expected to resume Thursday. Suffolk
All after-school activities and athletics at Suffolk Public Schools have been canceled. All buildings and schools will operate on a 2-hour delay Wednesday.
After-school programming for Suffolk Parks & Recreation Joint Use Recreation Centers (Kings Fork, Creekside, Northern Shores, Oakland, Booker T. Washington and Mack Benn, Jr.) will operate as normal Tuesday evening. All recreation centers and the Suffolk Art Gallery will close at 6 p.m. and all parks and recreation classes and programming are canceled.
All public libraries will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Virginia Beach
Virginia Beach Public Schools elementary and middle school activities are canceled Tuesday. Parks and Recreation after-school child care programs will continue as planned. High school after-school activities must be completed by 5 p.m. and all evening activities are canceled.
