Cate Blanchett’s ‘Borderlands’ Gets Ridiculed for No Fault of Its Own after Director Singlehandedly Ruined a Perfect Script
Cate Blanchett is an iconic actress who simply needs no introduction. Portraying a variety of roles over the years, Blanchett is simply phenomenal and the people know it quite well.
The actress recently worked on the upcoming film Borderlands alongside Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis, and the world was waiting excitedly for it. However, reviews seem to hint that the film… is not so great.
Borderlands is a Borderline Failure
Well, we are not the ones saying it since the film hasn’t been released (officially) yet. However, the early reviews are here and people think that there’s definitely something wrong with the flick.
What was supposed to be an exciting action film with some heavy scenes turned into a fanfest of explosions, kid jokes, and, a script that got reworked by the director.
Notable insider Daniel Richtman aka @DanielRPK took to his social media account on X to talk about the film. During his review, Richtman mentioned that the inclusion of Eli Roth as the director of the film is essentially what ruined what could have been an iconic game-to-movie adaptation.
He further emphasized the statement that Eli Roth as the director of the movie was the wrong choice.
Fans seemed to agree with Richtman’s statements as they took to the comments section and discussed how the film turned into a failure so quickly.
Although the film hasn’t been released yet, early reports from Box Office Pro seem to indicate that the film is looking for a domestic opening of around $10-20 million, against a budget of $120 million.
The release of the Marvel Jesus flick Deadpool & Wolverine is not a helping factor since fans state that they would rather watch the MCU flick again, instead of the Blanchett movie. Whatever the case may be, it seems that fans do not mind Cate Blanchett as Lilith in the film.
What Eli Roth Had To Say About Borderlands
Before the release of the Cate Blanchett film, director Eli Roth talked about what Borderlands essentially is. From mixing everything to creating something unique, Roth tried his best.
Director Eli Roth explained to Entertainment Weekly that the footage (of his movie) showcased fun, insanity, and, total mayhem, something that Borderlands is known for.
There’s an absolute sense of mayhem and total insanity and fun that’s in the game that is infused in every frame of the film. It’s got science-fiction, it’s got creatures, it’s got a bit of Star Wars, it’s got a bit of Mad Max, it’s got a bit of Barbarella, all these sci-fi influences that I love.
Well, whatever the case may be, only time can tell whether the box office collection of Borderlands will defy the expectations of fans, or whether it will just be another flopped video game-to-movie adaptation.
Cate Blanchett portrays the role of Lilith in the upcoming movie and fans are quite excited to see her character.
The film is slated for a release date of 9 August 2024 in theaters across the U.S.
