It’s always a shame when a feature is retired from your favourite hobby, be that in gaming, on the tabletop or elsewhere. But today we’ve got that rare instance where a fan-favourite is making a return! In this case, Conflict of Nations: WW3 is seeing the return of the hit clan vs clan battles with Elite Challenges.

How does it work? Well, Elite Challenges are team-based battles where alliances can face off against one another. But unlike normal alliance challenges these Elite Challenges come with a twist, as you’ll need to be rank 25 or above to participate and the usage of gold is prohibited.

Yes, this is the ultimate test of skill and strategy for Conflict of Nations fans. To kick off the return of this feature there’ll be two challenge maps available with the Mediterranean and Antarctica. You’ll have further differentiation from other matches in Conflict of Nations as you’ll have access to 2x starting resources, production and the tech tree on day 10. Cue the bigger armies and the more diverse usage of tech.

I think it’s safe to guess why Elite Challenges were so well-loved by the player base. But as the folks at Dorado Games point out, they were also a major hassle to implement as their player base grew. I’ve no doubt as well the fact that this mode completely discards premium currency in favour of an entirely level playing field will be something almost all players will be happy with.
