Death Stranding 2’s Latest Footage Debuts New Characters And A Talking Doll

The original Death Stranding had its own bizarre touches, but it looks like Hideo Kojima is going even further with the sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. At the Tokyo Game Show, Kojima Productions debuted an extended preview of Death Stranding 2 that featured new characters, a photo mode, and a living puppet named Dollman who has a song in his heart.

In the first scene, Norman Reedus’ Sam Porter Bridges is reunited with Fragile (Léa Seydoux), who introduces him to Tarman (as voiced by Marty Rhone, with the likeness of director George Miller), the captain of a submarine. Dollman (Jonathan Roumie is the voice actor, while the puppet’s likeness is based on Fatih Akin) also greets Sam and briefly reveals that he was once a human medium before he was stuck in his current form.

After that, Sam becomes acquainted with a pregnant woman named Rainy (Shioli Kutsuna), and a newcomer who goes by Tomorrow (Elle Fanning). When Tomorrow starts singing to Rainy’s baby, Dollman takes the opportunity to join in even while he’s hanging from Sam’s belt. It looks like that’s how Dollman and Sam will be traveling together at some point.

From there, Sam and Dollman meet up with Heartman (Nicolas Winding Refn’s likeness, as voiced by Darren Jacobs), a man who can literally shut off his heart at will. Heartman’s exo-suit also gives him the ability to sleep in any standing position that he chooses. To close out the video, Fragile, Tomorrow, and Rainy fool around in the camera mode, and the resulting Polaroid-like pictures look more realistic than everything else.

Death Stranding 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it will hit PlayStation 5 in 2025.
