Decades-Old Lunar RPGs Are Getting A PS4 And PS5 Remaster

Beloved ’90s RPGs Lunar: The Silver Star and Lunar: Eternal Blue are coming back with new remasters, bringing some of the best non-Final Fantasy turn-based anime RPGs of the day to modern consoles.

Sony announced that the two classics are returning as the Lunar Remastered Collection during its State of Play livestream. The remasters feature updated visuals and sound, a new widescreen mode, and quality-of-life improvements. The new versions also have re-recorded English dialogue.

The remastered Lunar games are set to hit PlayStation 4 and PS5 in Spring 2025, although Sony didn’t share any additional details. You can check out the announcement trailer below.

The Lunar games were originally released on Sega CD in the 1990s and were notable for quality stories and strong English localization, great classic turn-based RPG action, and anime cutscenes. Since the first game’s release in 1993, there have been a bunch of remakes and re-releases; the most notable was Lunar: The Silver Star Story Complete, coming to the US on the original PlayStation in 1999.

Since then, the Lunar games saw releases on the Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable, and on mobile devices, but there hasn’t been a new US version of Silver Star Story Complete since it hit iOS in 2012, and no new Eternal Blue US version since it released on PlayStation in 2000. That’s a long time to wait for a couple of classics of the ’90s RPG form to become available again.
