Diogo Jota Wants a Counter-Strike 2 Team, Says His Manager

It’s not a strange concept whatsoever – footballers are investing in the esports industry all the time. From David Beckham’s ambassadorship of Guild Esports to Sergio Aguero’s foundation of KRU, these top-tier sports personalities are moving more into esports with each passing day. I recently had a sit down with Robert Lewandowski to discuss the synergy between esports and traditional sports, which was enlightening.

Now, according to one of Diogo Jota’s managers, the Liverpool player wants to start a Counter-Strike team, which would assumedly sit under the banner of Luna Galaxy, the superstar player’s established esports organisation.

The Next Step

Diogo Jota’s esports organisation – Luna Galaxy – already has a foothold in various games, such as Rocket League and EA Sports FC, but Counter-Strike 2 could be the player’s next vertical. He was recently spotted at the Esports World Cup attending the grand final in the Counter-Strike 2 tournament between G2 Esports and Natus Vincere.

In a quick chat with one of his managers, it was revealed that while Jota doesn’t play CS2 himself, he wants to field a team in the space.

It’s not a bad idea – Counter-Strike sits at the top of the esports table and is one of the most consistently popular games in the world. The esports ecosystem around Counter-Strike 2 has tens of millions of dollars pumped into it every year, and it’s one of the most prolific games in the landscape – Jota would undoubtedly enjoy making a foray into the scene.
