DNA evidence links 1995 suspect to Morgan Nick disappearance

A strand of hair in a truck has led to new evidence in the Morgan Nick kidnapping case.

Almost 25 years ago, on June 9, 1995, 6-year-old Morgan attended a Little League baseball game in Alma, Arkansas, with her mother, Colleen Nick.

When Morgan went missing, she was playing with her friends. Her friends noted that they saw Morgan speaking to a man in a red truck. She last was seen emptying sand from her shoes by her mother’s vehicle. When her mother attempted to go see Morgan, she was gone, and so was the red truck.

In a news conference on Oct. 1, 2024, Alma Police Chief Jeff Pointer said that a renewed investigation led detectives to examine Billy Jack Lincks, who had initially been questioned in 1995 about Morgan’s disappearance.

The disappearance of Morgan Nick, 6, from Alma, Ark. in 1995 is featured in the Hulu show, "Still Missing Morgan."

Lincks was from Crawford County, served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and worked at Braniff Airlines in Dallas from 1962-1974. Lincks moved back to Van Buren in the late 1970s.

The hair linking Lincks to Morgan was found in the red truck he owned at the time of Morgan Nick’s disappearance.

About two months after Morgan disappeared, Lincks attempted to abduct a young girl in Van Buren at a location 8 miles from the Wofford baseball field where Morgan was last seen.

Lincks was convicted by a jury on a felony charge of sexual solicitation of another child under age 14 in 1996, and he was sentenced to six years in prison. Lincks died in prison in 2000.

Porter called today’s announcement the most significant advance made in this case.

Morgan’s mother, Colleen, said, “he stole Morgan from me,” but also said that her memory, “her voice,” lived on.

Morgan is still missing. Anyone with information about the case can contact the Alma Police Department at 479-632-3333. Tips can also be made to the FBI by calling 1-800-225-5324.
