eFootball begins second volume of its collaboration with iconic manga series Captain Tsubasa

Hot off the back of a major collaboration, top sporting simulator eFootball has announced volume two of its collaboration with hit manga series, Captain Tsubasa. This next volume brings a whole host of new rewards to unlock, all themed around the iconic sports manga!

We’ve already explained what Captain Tsubasa is in previous coverage, but once more with emphasis; Captain Tsubasa is a long-running multimedia franchise starting as a manga by Yoichi Takahashi that charts the titular Tsubas Oozora and his rise from amateur footballer to world pro.

This new update further expands the scope of the collaboration with new log-in bonuses including special edition cards illustrated by Takahashi featuring top personalities like Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi. You’ll also be able to grab cross-over cards between the characters of the series and legendary real-life players, like Michel Platini x Elle Sid Pierre or Diego Forlán x Ramon Victorino.

Footballing beyond

I don’t think it’s an understatement to say that, alongside other heavyweights more well-known in the West such as Dragon Ball and One Piece, Captain Tsubasa is an icon of manga. It arguably kickstarted the modern fascination with sports series inherited by titles like Blue Lock (itself a multiple-time collaborator on mobile), so even for those who don’t know it intimately, I think they’ll respect the series’ pedigree.

It’s not just collab news for eFootball either as they also launched in-game qualifiers for the eFootball Championship 2025 Open. Round one runs until February 6th, and winners can be in with a chance to compete in the Open for the title of World Champion.
