Elden Ring Nightreign is So Popular That Scalpers are Already Selling Network Test Codes at Outrageous Prices
Elden Ring: Nightreign is one of the most anticipated titles set to be released later in 2025 and with FromSoftware, the developer of the game, announcing a network test for the game on January 10, every Elden Ring fan is clamoring for a mere chance of getting their hands on the experience early.
FromSoftware has confirmed that the network test for Elden Ring: Nightreign will start from February and FromSoftware is currently in the process of selecting the participants for the Network test as it has limited slots. If the test has not even started yet, how are scalpers already selling the access codes on eBay? Let’s find out.
Scalpers are cashing in on the Elden Ring hype
Scalpers are individuals who buy highly sought-after products and resell them at much higher prices than retail with the intent of making a profit. This practice is common with things like concert tickets, limited-edition products, and now apparently video game network test codes. In this scenario, they are selling the codes for the Nightreign network test that will start on 11 February.
Listings have already surfaced on eBay, with sellers claiming that they have already secured access to the test via the official FromSoftware email and will send the network test code as soon as they get it on February 11 or before that. The prices of these yet-to-be-released codes range from £30 to £60, with one listing going as high as £400.
Elden Ring remains one of the most popular games of recent years, selling over 28 million units since launch, and even its latest Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has sold over 25 million copies, an astonishing feat for a primarily single-player game. With an active player base of almost 40,000 people still averaging in the game, it’s no wonder that fans are willing to pay a premium for early access to Elden Ring: Nightreign.
Is it worth the risk?
Most of these eBay listings are likely a scam and even though there are some reckless fans of Elden Ring in the community, no one is crazy enough to buy network test codes for a game that will be fully released in less than nine months.
There are no guarantees that these sellers on eBay will even receive a confirmed code for the network test or that they will follow through with the transaction, hence buying one of these codes is a risky gamble that is not worth taking. It is significantly better to wait for an official selection by FromSoftware to participate in the network test, rather than paying a premium for something that may not even exist.
