Bandai Namco and FromSoftware decided to delay Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 in order to improve the game’s performance on that platform.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition Is No Longer Launching in 2025
Even though there was no specific launch date revealed for 2025, it was expected to launch this year. At this stage, the only confirmed detail is that the next installment in the acclaimed open-world Souls-like action RPG series is officially targeting a release sometime in 2026. Beyond that, specifics remain uncertain, as the exact launch window has yet to be clarified by the developers. For now, the release date remains somewhat ambiguous, leaving us eagerly awaiting further announcements and a more concrete timeline.
Performance issues to be resolved
The statement on X confirms that the delay is because the devs need more time to make some “performance adjustments.” It looks like the backlash from the early Elden Ring Switch 2 footage was enough to make Bandai and FromSoft hold off on releasing it until it’s running better.
The Tarnished Edition includes the original Elden Ring as well as the extensive Shadow of the Erdtree expansion , bringing together a wealth of hours of gameplay and content for Nintendo Switch 2 players.
