Elden Ring’s Next Massive Adventure is a Real Time, Nemesis-Inspired Mod of Mayhem that’ll Have You Ignoring Shadow of the Erdtree
While Elden Ring has moments where things get very dicey, it is the most approachable FromSoftware game for the more casual gamer. That is good news for some, but it left ardent FromSoftware fans who look forward to a real challenge a bit let down. That’s where mods come into the picture.
PC players can change the game as they wish, sometimes to such a degree that it’s not even the same title the developers initially launched. ‘After the Shattering’ is one such mod that is going to change the game from the ground up and bring a whole list of new features to the title.
Upcoming Elden Ring Mod will Bring True Despair to The Lands Between
Grimrukh is well-known in the Soulsborne community for creating the Daughters of Ash mod for the original Dark Souls. One of the biggest mods to the game brought new bosses, enemies, weapons, and even storylines to the game. He is also currently working on a second expansion called Dark Souls: Nightfall, but his recent announcement is for the newest FromSoftware game.

Titled ‘After the Shattering‘, the new mod is created for the popular Soulsborne streamer LobosJr. It’s a charity mod that will be released in May, a tradition Grimrukh has followed for over five years now. The tweet thread offers a quick overview of the major features the mod will bring to Elden Ring.
One of the important features listed gained inspiration from a Warner Brothers title: Shadow of Mordor. The nemesis system in the game was something no other game had implemented, and it worked wonders to improve replayability.
Enemies hold grudges. (Don’t tell Warner Brothers.)
A soldier that kills you might steal something from you and carry it halfway across the world, or rise up through the ranks faster. A faction might deploy assassins to find you.

It seems a similar system is being built for this mod, as enemies who defeat you will take your resources or rise faster in the ranks. On the flip side, killing your enemies may land a bounty on your head that assassins come to collect.
The Mod will be Released before Shadow of the Erdtree
As stated by Grimrukh, the mod will be available by May. This is an entire month before the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, giving gamers a fair bit of time to experience two vastly different formats. The DLC is touted as FromSoftware’s largest expansion yet, so it will be interesting to see which of the two takes longer to finish.
The mod will also bring a real-time element to the game world. The world will reset at 5 a.m. every day, keeping gamers on their toes. Enemy positions and encounters are completely randomized, and enemies will also be creating factions of their own. Major bosses have also been tuned to become much harder.
Players will be able to join a set faction and embark on treasure hunts, dungeon time attacks, and boss rush gauntlets, to name just a few of the many mission types. The fact that Runebears and dragons can now appear anywhere and at any time should be enough to set most Elden Ring players on edge. ‘After the Shattering’ is currently a working title as another mod of the same name exists.
