Step back in time to this grand 111-year-old mansion on East Avenue in Rochester.

Price

This 16,124-square-foot home at 935 East Ave., is listed at $2,700,000, according to the real estate listing.

Location

The mansion is located on a 1.4-acre lot on the corner of East Avenue and Barrington Street, bordering Rochester’s favored Neighborhood of the Arts and Park Avenue neighborhood. The massive mansion – located directly across the street from Hutchison House, is located within the Rochester City School District.

About the property

The mansion was built in 1913 by Rufus Sibley, co-owner of Sibley’s department store, for his daughter Elizabeth Sibley, who lived there until the mid 1950s. The property was donated to the Episcopal Diocese of Rochester in 1954, which operated its offices and chapel at the site until the diocese sold the property in 2017.

The 11-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion has an elegant, historic feel with original handcrafted moldings, bannisters and wood floors. Some rooms are more modern and others offer a step back in time to the early 1900s. It also includes an attached carriage house. The structure is one of roughly 700 included in the East Avenue Historic District, an area listed on the National Historic Register and stretching from Alexander Street almost to the East Avenue Wegmans grocery store. According to city property records, the parcel’s assessed value is $1,317,600.
