Family pays tribute to Alex Oates after falling tree disaster at Kevington

The young man killed when a tree fell up him during a camping trip on Saturday has been remembered by his family as a “beautiful soul”.

Alex Oates, 27, was camping at Kevington when a tree fell onto his swag and ute in the early morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, about 230km northeast of Melbourne, at 3am.

“The large tree had fallen at a campground near Eildon Jamieson Road,” Victoria Police said on Saturday.
