Far Cry 7 Has Already Broken an Unfortunate Record for Ubisoft

Ubisoft’s Far Cry franchise has been one of its most successful assets. 2021’s Far Cry 6 was a strong addition to the beloved series but fans are now wondering what’s next for the franchise. After six main installments, Ubisoft hasn’t released much information about the next game.

In the past, it has been noticed that Ubisoft follows a pattern for the release of its Far Cry games. However, that pattern was ruined this year. Fans have been getting a new Far Cry game every two years, and since FC6 was released in 2021, fans were supposed to get a Far Cry game this year. A job listing has confirmed that the game is in development but no official release date has been released by Ubisoft as of now.

Ubisoft Broke Far Cry Series’ Pattern

The last main installment in the Far Cry series, Far Cry 6 was released in 2021 so this year, fans of the series should’ve got another Far Cry game if Ubisoft followed its pattern of releasing a Far Cry game every two years. Unfortunately, this pattern was broken as no game was announced, in fact, Ubisoft hasn’t even released a teaser or a trailer for the game yet.

In case you don’t know, Ubisoft isn’t exactly doing well. It still stands as one of the best video game publishers in the world but there were rumors about a potential buyout. Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that Guillemot Brothers Limited, a shareholder of Ubisoft, along with Tencent are considering options including a potential buyout of Ubisoft. With so much operating loss reported in 2023, it seems like the shareholders are planning to make some changes.

Ubisoft Might Have Confirmed That The Next Far Cry Game Is In Development

Earlier this year, an interesting job listing was found on Ubisoft’s official website. The studio was looking for a 3D Programmer Team Lead who would be responsible for leading a team of skilled 3D programmers in the development of the “next generation of the FarCry branded games.” This listing clearly confirms that the game is in the works but it is hard to tell when the game will be released.

At the moment, Ubisoft is more focused on releasing the next game in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was unexpectedly delayed this year. Apart from the delay, Ubisoft also canceled the game’s season pass and refunded existing pre-orders. It’s clear that Far Cry 7 will not be released in 2025, but its safe to say that Ubisoft would release a trailer next year.

As for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, the game is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S, macOS, and iPadOS on February 14, 2025.
