Father, son killed during brawl at toddler’s birthday in Melbourne’s southeast
A man who died alongside his father in a violent incident at a party is being remembered as a committed friend and footy player.
Karl Gruber-Terrick, 23, died at a toddler’s birthday party in Melbourne’s southeast on Thursday.
His father, Karl Gruber Snr, 54, also died.
No arrests have been made.
Online, tributes for Mr Gruber-Terrick have come from his friends and football club.
Indigenous amateur side Fitzroy Stars Football and Netball Club posted online that Mr Gruber-Terrick was talented and genuine.

“We are grieving the sudden loss of one of our much loved playing members who was a true gentleman at our club, wore his heart on his sleeve and let his footy do the talking,” a spokesperson posted online.
“Vale Karl Gruber-Terrick. The Fitzroy Stars Football and Netball Club send our condolences to Margaret and the Gruber-Terrick family.”
“We also send our condolences to his teammates and all those close to Karl. Rest in peace.”
The two men died after an altercation at a home on Observatory Street in Clyde North about 9.30pm on January 16.

An argument spilt out onto the street.
The father and son were stabbed and died at the scene.
Multiple people involved left before police arrived.
On Saturday morning, a police spokesperson confirmed no arrests had been made.
“At some stage during that brawl, two men have been stabbed and they’ve both died at the scene. It’s tragic. You could just imagine how that family feels. It should have been a great celebration, but it’s just a dreadful ending,” Detective Superintendent Janet Stevenson said on Friday.
“We really need to speak to those people so we can piece together exactly what happened here.”

Mr Gruber-Terrick had footballing connections to Darwin, and friends shared sentimental memories.
“You were my brother, my rock and someone I could always rely on. I will miss you Karl, and I pray that I will see you again in heaven. I love you with all my heart,” a friend posted online.
“I will always remember just how happy you were when you found out I wrote a song for you and how you could never let us be together and not listen to it.”
“We are all heartbroken from the news of you, Karl,” another online tribute reads.
“You were a deadly young fulla, loved by all of us, and were a loyal cousin and brother. You will be immensely missed.”
