First Factorio DLC, Space Age, Launches Today on Steam

If you’ve never played Factorio, you should know there’s a reason it’s consistently in the highest-rated titles on the entire Steam platform. It’s an addicting factory and automation game that, once it clicks, consumes your free time. Well, those of us who have spent hundreds or thousands of hours automating production lines and building trains have eagerly awaited new content, and it’s finally time. The first Factorio DLC, Space Age, launches today on Steam!

In Space Age, players continue their automation journey by taking to the stars. With the launch of your rocket in the vanilla game, that was the end. But with Space Age, it’s the first step in a more profound journey, as you’ll leap into space with advanced technological feats and space platforms that require additional planning and materials. There’s limited space on these platforms, so you must plan accordingly.

Alongside the release of Space Age, Factorio receives its free 2.0 update, which features game additions, optimization, and gameplay improvements.

All that said, the price is a factor to consider. Factorio: Space Age costs $35, the same price as the base game, making the entire package $70 for those who don’t already own Factorio. Considering the number of hours you’ll eke out of the automation game, it’s a steep asking price but worthwhile.

Despite the cost of the expansion, the first Factorio DLC sits at ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ on Steam as of this writing, just like its base game. There are nearly 1,000 reviews, and 98% of them are positive. The only negative reviews for the DLC point toward the pricing, missing quality-of-life features, and early release for content creators that have rubbed players the wrong way.
