Forecasters track a tropical disturbance in Atlantic. It might affect Haiti, Puerto Rico

Hurricane forecasters are tracking a tropical disturbance that is over the open Atlantic Ocean and its chances of forming into something stronger in the next two days is next to nil. In a week’s time it has ticked up a notch since Friday night’s 20% odds. Puerto Rico and Haiti might see some effects in the coming days.

Development chances

The system has a zero percent chance of developing over the weekend but a 30% chance of forming into something else in the next seven days, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Where is the disturbance?

As of the 8 a.m. Saturday advisory, the National Hurricane Center said the area of “disturbed weather” was hovering around the central tropical Atlantic and was expected to interact with a coming tropical wave during the next several days.

This encounter might cause some system development as it moves toward the Lesser Antilles during the early to middle of the week. It is expected to move west-northwest near the Greater Antilles at that time, hurricane center meteorologist Robbie Berg said in his advisory.

National Hurricane Center’s 8 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2024, advisory on Atlantic disturbance.
