Fortnite Stepping Away From a Major Item Is a Monumental Misstep by Epic Games

Fortnite took the world by storm when it was first released back in 2017. The game made by Epic Games, was so unique with its style of battle royale and gameplay mechanics that within two weeks of release it had an average player count of over 10 million players worldwide. The game currently averages a whooping 1-3 million concurrent players every day across all the game modes.

The game is unparalleled when it comes to pouring out new content every season and sometimes even bringing back old classics like old maps and game modes for the players to enjoy. However, one category of item Epic Games has sort of overlooked for the past two years now is the Exotic Weapons in the game.

What happened to exotic weapons in Fortnite?

Exotic weapons are just new variants of already existing weapons in Fortnite that have an extra additional perk or benefit added to them, they have a unique name as well, often reflective of what the weapon does. These exotic weapons have been a crucial part of Fortnite since their release back in 2020 and can be found in various ways, including holochests, which were also vaulted.

Exotic weapons were a way of keeping the game interesting, with new weapons every season, players had a reason to find them and see their unique attributes. But since the last two years, Epic Games have totally ignored the possibility of a new exotic weapon. 

Both the discontinuation of holochests and the lack of new exotic weapons have left a bad taste in players’ mouths. Fortnite players have nothing new to anticipate in the upcoming seasons and are nostalgic for the days when they used to discover a new exotic weapon in the wild.

Unique exotic weapons have been an intriguing part of the game ever since it was introduced in the game, Even though Fortnite often reintroduces various game elements, players are still uncertain whether a new exotic weapon will be added to the game anytime soon.

Fans’ involvement in inspiring the developers

These exotic weapons played a crucial role in keeping the game alive and new to the players and not introducing them for over 2 years was a significantly obtuse move by Epic Games. So much so that fans of the game have taken matters into their own hands, by being creative and pitching their own exotic weapon ideas in an attempt to catch the developer’s attention.

Fortnite players have turned to social media like Reddit and Twitter to present their ideas and concepts on a global scale often making mock-up weapon designs or conceptual sketches and explaining gameplay mechanics. Players are hoping that their enthusiasm will inspire the developers and reintroduce exotic weapons in the game.

The creativity of the players emphasizes the potential of the Fortnite community and given the history of community contributions that have impacted game updates before, it is likely that new exotic weapons will soon make a comeback in the game.
