From Borderlands 4 To Civilisation 7 and a New Mafia, 2K Is Planning Big Things For 2025, Although One Thing Is Still Sorely Missing

Publisher 2K just dropped some major bombshells at Gamescom 2024, and it has got big plans for 2025. The studio is ready to dominate the gaming scene next year with some big returns to beloved franchises.

Not to say people aren’t grateful, but while fans are excited about these reveals, there’s from the list of returning franchises, everyone’s mostly concerned about the sheer lack of BioShock.

The Publisher Has a Promising Year Ahead

During Gamescom, the publisher went all out with its announcements. The first big reveal was Borderlands 4, set to arrive sometime in 2025. The trailer didn’t give away much in terms of plot, but it’ll continue the chaotic, over-the-top action that’s standard with the franchise.

Then there was the Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 announcement, a niche (but loved) franchise that’s getting a fresh installment. Set to release on February 11, 2025, this new game promises to build on the legacy of its predecessors with updated graphics, new mechanics, and even more ways to build and conquer your way through history.

It’s not one for the strategy game enthusiasts to miss, that’s for sure. The biggest surprise of the night was the announcement of another 2025 release in the Mafia series, titled The Old Country.

It’s set in the underworld of 1900s Sicily, which is exactly where you’d want to be if you’re playing a game based around one of the most brutal mobs in real-life history.

Safe to say, 2025 is the publisher’s year. But, there’s still a big part of this picture missing. It’s nice to see all these franchises making a return, but people want to know: where’s BioShock?

Not a Single Mention of Bioshock, and Fans Are Worried

It’s hard to tell whether the publisher is just working on a new entry for the franchise and it’s still on the down-low, or if it’s completely been left in the dust.

The last piece of official news about the franchise came in December 2019, when it was announced that a new installment was being developed by studio Cloud Chamber.

Since it’s been quite a few years since then, a lot of people were hoping to see some kind of news on it, even if it was just a crumb.

Unfortunately, the plate was licked clean by the end of the event. Fans of the retrofuturistic FPS are simply going to have to deal with waiting a longer time for more information.

That’s not to say the reveals that did happen weren’t exciting enough though. There are enough fans of the other franchises to create plenty of hype and excitement.

Plus, the reveal got the attention of Walmart Canada Gaming’s social media account, so that has to mean something, right?

Are you looking forward to playing any of the publisher’s other 2025 releases? Let us know which ones in the comments below!
