Garry’s Mod Owner Receives DMCA Notice Over HIS Skibidi Toilet Creation

Skibidi Toilet, the webseries comprising of YouTube videos and shorts is very popular around the world and garner massive views. It was also announced last week that Michael Bay is making a Skibidi film and TV franchise.

It is a skit series on Garry’s Mod, the sandbox game, using Half-Life models with no set objectives. Soon after the news of the adaptation that surprised many, another shocking news comes that Garry’s Mod has received a DMCA notice over the Skibidi Toilet content.

As reported on X/Twitter, Garry’s Mod received a DMCA notice over “unauthorised Skibidi Toilet games” and the notice highlighted that the Titan Cameraman, Titan Speakerman, Titan TV Man, and Skibidi Toilet characters are “registered copyrights.”

It added “significant revenue is being generated by unauthorized Skibidi Toilet Garry’s Mod games that are being advertised everywhere.” It also described the Titan characters and said that these originated on the DAFuqBoom YouTube channel, claiming that the models are infringing on copyright.

The notice also mentioned that there is an official store and also shared the copyright details. Gary Newman reacted to the notice in the s&box Discord server saying, “Skibidi Toilet guys sent a DMCA too. Serious. Can you believe the cheek?”

However, the webseries is a compilation of several assets of Half-Life 2 and are originally created in the game. So since these are not original to the series, the DMCA notice isn’t of any help to the sender.

The Notice Was Not Sent by DaFuqBoom and Is Now Sorted

Soon after this came to light, Skibidi creator Alexey Gerasimov (DaFuqBoom) said that he didn’t send the DMCA notice. He asked people if there was a way to contact Garry so they could find what else was in the letter and get things sorted.

As per the DMCA notice, it was filed by Invisible Narratives, the studio founded by Michael Bay and Adam Goodman. This could mean that the production company wanted to be the sole owner of the meme as its making the movie and TV franchise.

However, that may not be possible as the character are from Half Life and Valve is the owner of the popular series, therefore, the characters. As per Newman via IGN, the DMCA notice was sent late last year and since then Alexey Gerasimov has contacted him and everything is resolved.
