Gears of War E-Day Won’t Feature Cole Train or Baird, but 1 Tragic Gears of War 2 Character Could Make an Appearance and Add to His Already Rich Backstory
Gears of War: E-Day is the upcoming prequel title set to chronicle the horrific events of Emergence Day. One of the most disastrous moments of humankind’s history, was when the Locust Horde erupted from beneath Sera and thrust humanity into a struggle for survival.
The prequel is set to give a new origin story to the iconic Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, but who else will be in the game? The speculation is running rampant already and one of the possible characters to join Marcus and Dom is none other than Corporal Tai Kaliso from Gears of War 2.
Slight spoilers for previous Gears games below:
Tai Kaliso in Gears of War: E-Day isn’t a far-off thought. From the Gears of War lore, Marcus and Kaliso served together during the Pendulum Wars, which suggests a pre-existing bond that could be given an origin story during the chaos of E-Day. With that said, Kaliso feels like a natural fit.
The fan-favorite Corporal has a huge gap in his story between the Pendulum Wars and Gears of War 2. The latest installment in the franchise can fill this massive void and show the two legendary characters facing the Locust for the first time.
Hey, why not even reveal how he acquired the chainsaw that inspired the Lancer chainsaw bayonet? This weapon became a staple of the Gears arsenal. If you ask fans, most would say that Tai Kaliso’s inclusion would be a massive win for the franchise. He is a known stoic and a warrior, like every Gears player wants to be. His return to the franchise will be a beloved nostalgic nod to his tragic demise in Gears of War 2.
The Locust captured Tai during one of the missions and after a brutal torture known as processing, he was physically and mentally broken. The Delta Squad was able to find him later in the game, but his despair couldn’t be mended. Marcus offered him a weapon to fight alongside them, but he chose to end his life.
While Tai Kaliso is a great fit and fans know it, lore details make it a bit more complex, which got them thinking about other companions. Delta Squad is yet to be formed, which means that Baird and Cole Train are out of this equation.
Nevertheless, fans’ speculation includes characters like Minh Young Kim, who fought alongside Marcus already but didn’t have a major role.
If it takes place anywhere near Ephyra we might be seeing more of Minh Young Kim. From their convos in gears one it sounded like him and Marcus had some type of history pic.twitter.com/AhnDrOsC5k

Some fans even hope for the appearance of Maria, who is close to Dom.
Moreover, one fan speculates that Gears of War: E-Day might feature a new character named Padrick Salton, who is from the same islands as Tai.
Marcus’s squad at the end of the pendulum wars and the beginning of the locust war consisted of himself, Dom, Tai, and a guy from the books and comics named Padrick Salton, a red headed guy who is from the same islands as Tai. So E-day should be Pad’s first in-game appearance. pic.twitter.com/EU37UYhTCO

With that said, fans aren’t giving up on Tai, as they hope to see the Lancer and Tai in E-Day.
I wonder if we’ll see the Lancer Mk2, because wasn’t it a short bit into the Locust War that Tai strapped a chainsaw to his rifle? 🤔
