Ghost of Tsushima Fans are Actually Defending 1 Character More Infuriating Than Jar Jar Binks

A flawed character is often the one the audience empathizes with the most since they are the most relatable. In a world where perfection is perpetuated in every corner of life, a flawed person gives a man hope to feel more comfortable in their skin.

Jin’s former teacher, Sensei Ishikawa, is the perfect example of it. He is an extremely annoying and arrogant character who has gotten a lot of hate in the game due to his hypocritical nature and the choices he has made in his life, but his soul has not degenerated.

His beliefs and principles might be contradictory to his actions, but still, some fans believe that his heart is in the right place and that he has accepted his flawed nature and is now okay with it. He realizes his mistakes but cannot be forever burdened by them.

Ishikawa has indeed done some unforgivable things. He almost intentionally led us into a massacre at the lighthouse, and he is the one responsible for Tomoe’s fate.

He left Jin’s hand to focus on Tomoe, whom he considered to be better than him. His annoying nature made him say the wrong things at the wrong time. His reputation is that of an annoying old man on the surface.

The biggest reason for Ghost of Tsushima being an extremely successful game is largely due to its deeply personal storytelling and the deep exploration of its characters, who are often faced with conflicts both external (with the invasion of Mongols) and internal (with the fight between honor and dishonor).

The writers made a conscious decision to create flawed characters to represent the world as it is and create characters that directly speak to the audience. The same did wonders for the game.

Similarly, Sensei Ishikawa did many things that were not right or hypocritical, but his soul seemed to be in a constant state of conflict, which made people empathize with him despite his unattractive actions in the game. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below.
