God of War Ragnarok Mod That Removed PSN Account Requirement Taken Down
The God of War Ragnarok PC mod that removed the requirement of needing a PlayStation Network (PSN) account has been taken offline.
Just days after first reports on the mod surfaced, NexusMods, the platform where it was hosted, released a statement from its developer. The developer says they removed it due to it getting “too much attention” that they became worried about legal action.
“I thought that it would be better to remove it from public to avoid any potential threats from the Sony side (even though the project never modified anything memory related to Sony products, but better be safe than sorry,” iArtoriasUA said.
“I’m sorry that it happened, but I cannot really put myself into risk since it was unclear. Hopefully you understand.”
God of War Ragnarok is a single player game that, like most first-part PlayStation games, requires a PSN account in order to play. The restriction limited the markets that players could buy and play the game due to regions not having the ability to create PSN Accounts despite having access to Steam.
PlayStation has required a PSN account for various games it’s released on Steam. It tried to add the requirement to Helldivers 2 months after the games launch, but that was reversed after severe backlash. Other single player games like Horizon Zero Dawn don’t require a PSN account on PC, but it’s upcoming remaster will.
