Hellblade 2 VFX Boss Can’t Get Over the Godlike Unreal Engine 5

Gamers over the last few years have had the chance to witness the best advancements when it comes to the technology that drives video games. With the help of developing tools such as Unreal Engine 5, production houses now have the chance to have more realistic graphic elements than ever, and the same has been testified by many, including the VFX director for the upcoming Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.

The VFX director went over how UE5 allows the developers to construct the game in ways never imagined before, including how lightning works in-game, an element that plays a huge role when it comes to giving a video game title a realistic feel.

For more context, UE5 is one of the most recent game-developing tools that has been released to help studios produce games. It grants the developers the ability to create more realistic environments that should not have been possible to come up with up until a few years ago. Talking about working with Unreal Engine 5 to develop the game, the VFX director, Mark Slater-Tunstill via IGN mentioned-

“As a creator, UE5 is amazing, We can kind of dig in and use parts of the internal screen rendering to do some interesting effects. And yeah, obviously the real-time nature of all the lighting, and now a lot of our effects can be lit as well. It just beds everything in, and everything just fits together much more nicely.”

The master of VFX explained how the engine allows them to have a deeper insight to the mechanics and rendering of the game allowing them to add intriguing effects. He also went over how the it allows them to play around with how the lightning works, making it feel more natural and to make it go well with the environment.

Unfortunately, such great graphical development comes along with disappointment for fans, especially those who would be experiencing the game on their consoles. As it turns out, Ninja Theory, the studio responsible for creating Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 has decided to put a major graphic limitation for people experiencing the title on Xbox.

It is true, players that who will be playing the console version of the game will be facing a major limitation as the FPS will be capped at just 30FPS. The aforementioned VFX director of the game has stated how this was implemented to give the game a more ‘cinematic‘ feel. Luckily, those who will be playing the game on their PC will be facing no such limitation.

The title will be locked to 30FPS on consoles.

Furthermore, on consoles there will be dynamic resolution, but no availability of other graphic settings that the player can tweak to their wishes and neither a performance mode, which would have allowed for a higher frame rate.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will be soon made available to purchase on Steam.
