Helldivers 2 Boss Acknowledging Starship Troopers Makes One Actor Making His Game Debut Much More Likely

Despite releasing less than a month ago, Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 has managed to become one of the most popular third-person shooters. Now, Arrowhead’s CEO and Helldivers 2‘s creative director, Johan Pilestedt, has left the fans wild as he has hinted at a possible crossover movie between 1997’s Starship Troopers and Helldivers 2.

Pilestedt recently had an interaction on X with actor Casper Van Dien, who played Johnny Rico in the 1997 sci-fi action movie. During the conversation, Pilestedt told the community that he thinks Helldivers 2 needs some “Roughnecks” in the game. So, fans can hope to see the elite unit from Starship Troopers very soon in the game. As of now, it’s not clear how this crossover will happen but Pilestedt is keen on making it a reality.

With Helldivers 2 gaining popularity, the game’s creative director, Johan Pilestedt made an X post related to 1997’s Starship Troopers. Actor Casper Van Dien, who played Johnny Rico in the movie, replied to the post suggesting that Pilestedt should do a crossover movie. Pilestedt liked the idea as he replied,

“Let’s start simple, I think we need some roughnecks in the game. Or what do you say, @helldivers2 community?”

As expected, fans loved the idea and can’t wait to see Johnny Rico in the video game. There is still no information about how this crossover will work, but surely fans will get some more info in the coming weeks. Despite receiving bad reviews at the time of its release, 1997’s Starship Troopers is now considered a cult classic. On a budget of $100-110 million, the film made roughly $121 million at the global box office.

Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 was released for PlayStation 5 and Windows on 8 February 2024 and in just three days, it managed to sell one million units. It’s safe to say it is one of the most popular co-op first-person shooter video games in the world right now.

Of course, Helldivers 2 has some bugs but with constant updates, Arrowhead is improving the game so players can have a seamless experience. These issues included those related to servers, which initially couldn’t handle the large number of players. Furthermore, many faced issues while logging into the game. In the latest patch, Arrowhead has fixed most of the issues.

Since no one expected the game to perform this well, Arrowhead Studios had no preparations so it announced that it intended to increase the size of its studio and hire more developers to accelerate its post-launch content plans. With this hinted crossover, it’s safe to say the studio is working on exciting updates with respect to the future of the series.
