Helldivers 2: How To Kill Chargers

The variety of enemies in Helldivers 2 is quite diverse, especially among the two known factions. But without a doubt, one of the most annoying and persistent enemies is the charger from the Terminids’ army.

This enemy can not only charge at you and deal a massive amount of damage, but it’s also practically invulnerable from the front until it reveals its weak point at the back. Fortunately, if players have many ways to destroy it if they pay attention and are patient enough. This is a guide on how to kill the charger in Helldivers 2.

A variety of powerful and deadly enemies make up the Terminids’ army in Helldivers 2, capable of ruining missions. But without a doubt, the charger ranks the highest on this list.

Except for a few weapons, the bio-organic plating completely armors this gigantic enemy, making it practically impenetrable. In addition to its size, it consistently charges players. This particular enemy could make every mission impossible.

Its weak point and most vulnerable area is located at the back, where it exposes itself after charging at the player and briefly stopping in one spot. While killing is difficult, it’s fortunately not impossible, and there are several strategies players can use to eliminate it quickly.

One of the most effective ways is to use various area-of-effect stratagems. In this Helldivers 2 guide, players will learn all kinds of strategies to take down the charger.

Orbital Stratagems Are Key

There are many stratagems to use when it comes to effectively taking down chargers in Helldivers 2. Even though the charger’s weak point is located on its back, using the Orbital Precision Strike stratagem, for example, and throwing the grenade that marks where the shot will land on the charger’s back will kill it in one hit.

All orbital attacks will have a similar effect on this enemy, but only a few will be truly precise enough to eliminate it. At some point, you’ll face a scenario with multiple chargers, and you’ll need to deploy several of these attacks to take them out remotely.

The orbital laser is the most effective stratagem for safely eliminating at least one charger, as it will relentlessly pursue it until its destruction. One of the key characteristics of this stratagem is that it deals massive damage and will track the largest targets in the area until its time runs out.

Effective Weapons Against the Charger

There are various heavy weapons in Helldivers 2 that are extremely effective against this enemy, but it’s all about timing when choosing when to use them. One of the most reliable, but also volatile, options is the MLS-4X Commando.

This rocket launcher has four shots that must be very accurate to take down the charger. You could try hitting it with all four shots from the front, which will likely kill the target, but the quickest and surest way is to hit its weak point.

The spear is another effective weapon. This weapon is extremely powerful due to its auto-targeting capability. However, you’ll need to be cautious about the distance between you and the target, as shooting from too close may result in a missed shot.

This weapon is quite strong, and hitting the charger with just two shots should be enough to take it down. One of the few downsides to this weapon is that you need to carry its ammunition as a type of equipment.

Other Options to Eliminate This Enemy

Maintaining a safe distance while using the HMG Emplacement stratagem is another viable strategy. For this strategy to be effective, you must position yourself slightly away from the charger, mount the turret, and continue firing until the ammo runs out.

Shooting any part of the body will likely kill it fairly quickly. The only downside is that you’ll be stationary for an extended period, making you vulnerable to other enemies.

The railgun, arc thrower, laser cannon, and similar weapons are also very effective against the charger, especially when hitting its weak point. However, if you manage to hit the same spot several times on any part of its body, you can also eliminate this enemy.

Another highly effective weapon is the flamethrower, which will deal cumulative damage as the fire burns. The charger will eventually die, but using the flamethrower will take a bit longer.

Ultimately, eliminating this annoying enemy should be a priority during missions, as failure to do so could result in it pursuing you for the duration of the mission. It’s always advisable to have various stratagems ready to take down this massive enemy as quickly as possible.

Another weapon in Helldivers 2 that can be useful is the Quasar Cannon, which may be slower but is immensely effective if you hit the weak spot. Area-of-effect strategies, such as napalm or other continuous attacks that cover large portions of the map, will also be useful in keeping these enemies at bay.

Although these tactics may not kill the charger immediately, they will weaken it enough to finish it off with fewer attacks. Eliminating the chargers before the area becomes overrun with enemies is the best strategy, as controlling other enemies is much easier. What do you think about this Helldivers 2 enemy?
