Helldivers 2: How to Kill Tanks

Helldivers 2 has a bunch of enemies that can give players a hard time as they fight for Democracy. From Terminids and Automatons, there are several dangerous enemies, and one of the most dangerous Automaton enemies is the Tanks which can be a big issue for players.

These enemies are often seen in higher-difficulty missions and have varied weapons and almost indestructible armor. But these also have many weaknesses and by combining them with the correct weapons, players can take them down. This guide will tell you how to kill Tanks in Helldivers 2.

All Tank Types in Helldivers 2

Automatons have some heavy enemies in Helldivers 2, whether it is the Factory Striders or these Tanks, and are a big threat. These Tanks are weapon platforms and can be difficult to take down as they keep raining gunfire on you.

Moreover, the presence of other Automatons will only make it worse. There are three types of Automaton Tanks in Helldivers 2, namely, the Annihilators, Shredders, and Barragers. These can be found roaming around in bot missions from Medium difficulty to Helldive.

Annihilator Tanks are one the most dangerous enemies in the game and pack a massive one-shot kill cannon attack and a front-mounted laser machine gun with a full 360-degree field of view that can kill you at a distance or if you try to get closer to it.

The Shredder Tank has four laser machine guns as the primary turret and can shoot at you at a shocking rate to you down. It has heavier armor than the Annihilator tanks in the front but has lower health overall. Lastly, the Barrager Tanks fire missiles, able to hit targets even if they are in cover.

How to Kill Tanks in Helldivers 2

It is difficult to kill the Tanks but can be made easy as there are many weapons and stratagems that players can use to take them out. Players can use several of Helldivers 2 armor-piercing weapon Stratagems such as the Railgun, Spear, Autocannon, or Recoilless Rifle.

Players can also go for Commando, Quasar Cannon, Grenade Launcher, and Anti-Materiel Rifle. Some of the shield options that players can choose include Shield Generator Pack, Ballistic Shield Backpack, and Shield Generator Relay for a better chance of winning against these war machines.

For Annihilator Tanks, players should target the tank itself but the Shredder Tank has weak spots and you can fire directly at the glowing red vent. Barrager too has a weak spot and players can attack the vents on the back of the tank’s turret.

Players can also try to use the Orbital Railcannon Strike, Orbital Laser, and Eagle 500kg Bomb against these heavily armored enemies. The Expandable Anti-Tank will also be of great use if the tanks are at a lower level.

Tips to Defeat the Tanks in Helldivers 2

Players need to focus on the weak points of the Tanks and destroy them. On the back of the main turret, the weak points will be marked with an orange heat sink. Players can use weapons with good armor penetration to damage the weak points and kill the Tanks.

Taking cover when not very close to a Tank is a wise strategy as you can stay away from the gunfire and explosive effects from these Annihilator Tank’s turrets and cower from Shredders’ rapid shots. These tanks are also very slow so you can easily run around them shooting them and escaping the line of fire.

However, it is also important that players avoid the machine guns that can easily take you down without any real effort. The Barragers take this to the next level as they fire rockets at the ground if players try to approach them.

Another important step in taking down these machines is to constantly talk to the teammates about them and their locations. Also, this may be a little unethical but you may try to use one of your teammates as bait to take damage from these tanks and then go in and use all the Stratagems you can on them.
