Helldivers 2 Players Have Lost Their First Planet, Malevalon Creek

Helldivers 2’s most intense planet, lovingly referred to as “Helldivers Vietnam,” is lost. What happened?

Malevalon Creek was there since the beginning of Helldivers 2’s launch, waiting unassumingly off in the Severin Sector while we were all fighting the Terminids during the game’s first offensive. Players who dipped over to fight some robots were met with Vietnam: Terminator Edition, spawning countless memes and clips in their wake.

If you want to see what all the fuss is about, you can’t. The planet is gone, lost to the Automatons. Despite what you might think, the Galactic Map and associated War are not scripted. At least, they aren’t scripted so much that players wont have a tangible impact on the outcome of the tide of battle. The original Helldivers, as many veterans will tell you, saw this kind of thing happen all the time, and some wars led to the complete loss of Super Earth itself, starting the cycle anew.

One planet might not seem like a great loss, but with just one more sector separating the Automatons from our home planet, we may need to start talking strategy.

The finger is most commonly pointed to mission farmers, or players who choose the quick and breezy “Defend” missions from Operations, complete them for quick credits and XP, then abandon the Operation to do it all over again. Doing this actually gives progress to the enemy faction, as do any uncompleted or abandoned Operations. Do this enough times across enough players, and we’re sure to lose not only planets, but entire Galactic Wars.

Although Malevalon Creek is outside the sector the current Galactic War is being waged in, its loss is felt by the community: an overcast of emotion that can only be described as, “eh.” Sure, it kinda sucked. It was hard to see and the robots were particularly aggressive, but it was funny, so we’re all a little sad to see it go.

That said, if we start losing planets within sectors closer to Super Earth, we may be in trouble. You can do your part by completing your Operations in their entirety before moving on to the next! You’ll not only get more Medals this way, but also rest assured knowing you did your part.
