Helldivers 2’s Answer to the Community’s Toxicity May Be the Best Thing About the Update and No-one is Talking About It

Helldivers 2 is a massive triumph for Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arrowhead Game Studios. The live service genre is an untapped pool of potential and Sony made the right move to share this game with the PC platform and maximize the player count.

Online multiplayer games are not for everyone, unfortunately, this game became another nesting ground for toxic gaming. Some players tend to kick fellow players for fun and this activity is not ideal for a growing community. The developers might have found the perfect countermeasure to combat this behavior.

The Days of Helldivers 2 Grief Kicking Might Be Over With This New Countermeasure

Arrowhead Game Studios and director Johan Pilestedt envisioned this game to unite players and emphasize the importance of collaborating with other people. The gaming community is a treasure trove of great ideas and a recent suggestion was to increase the passive perks of armors in Helldivers 2 and grant the wearer at least immunity from incoming damage by half.

The developers are stepping up their game with quality-of-life improvements by adding a new system that would benefit players who were removed from their lobbies. This could be a direct response to grief kicking that has increased throughout the past few weeks and players have had enough and the studio heard their pleas.

While there are legitimate and valid reasons for hosts to kick players who are inactive and are nothing but dead weight, some fans suggested implementing a feature where players could carry allies away from harm and toward the extraction point. This wouldn’t be the best solution but it is a way to work around player inactivity.

This new system would benefit players who are being picked on and will move them to another lobby with all their hard-earned loot to avoid starting a mission with nothing to show for it. Kicking out players who did nothing to deserve it is another display of toxicity and a modernized method of bullying that will likely dissuade the victim from playing with others in the future.

Director Johan Pilestedt wanted this project to encourage players to be kind to one another and extend a helping hand rather than add more to their grief. Perhaps this new system will permanently end this toxic activity and will allow players to feel safe from being randomly kicked for no reason.

Kicked players will be moved to a new session and will now be the host to avoid being kicked. Being a host is a responsibility that many seem to forget and treat it as a luxury rather than a burden.

Helldivers 2 host players should be monitored by the developers and vetted to ensure a clean track record of fairness and sportsmanship. Not everyone is fit to be given the power to remove any player from the squad without any valid reasons.

There must be grounds for removing a player from a match and it should be carefully evaluated. It was a mistake from the get-go to grant host players the privilege of removing anyone they deem worthy without pleading their cases.
