Helldivers 2’s Microsoft x Crowdstrike Reference is the Closest Xbox Fans Will Get to Being Involved

Xbox fans have almost been treated like outcasts when it comes to Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2. Since its release in February, the game’s release on other platforms has been a matter of great debate, with many arguing that such a great experience should not be kept locked behind a wall of exclusivity.

Unfortunately, Sony has not responded, showing no interest in making the game multi-platform for different users. This makes a recent Easter egg in the game introduced by the developers the closest Xbox users will get to being involved.

Nearly a week ago, computers around the world faced an issue nobody could have seen coming. Owing to a firmware update pushed by Crowdstrike, a Cybersecurity company, systems around the world, particularly those used in infrastructure like hospitals, airports, and more, faced a major outage.

Indirectly referencing this outage, the creators of the game added a notification for players to read, stating how a software update has caused an outage for all Destroyer surveillance systems, and directed the player to manually record ‘their own behavior‘ till everything’s back to normal.

Bearing in mind how a majority of the systems affected in the real world were running Windows, this is practically the closest Xbox players will get to being involved with the game in any way.

Despite console wars being dubbed as one of the most futile debates in the gaming industry, there remains no doubt that the absence of Arrowhead’s latest title on other platforms has fueled the disparity even further.

There is ultimately a huge player base that the game is unable to reach due to its exclusivity on PlayStation and PC, leaving some of the fans as spectators who can only dream of getting their hands on Helldivers 2 anytime in the future.

While it remains unlikely for Sony to move on from its stubbornness anytime soon and finally deliver what fans have been asking for, the green team on the other hand has already started scaling down on the number of exclusives the platform retains for itself, something which started with the release of Sea of Thieves on PlayStation.
