Helldivers 2’s Steam Reviews Shift Once Again, Is the Promise of A Few Buffs All It Took To Put A Comeback In Sight?

At one point, Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 was one of the most popular games of 2024 but eventually, there was a massive dip in its popularity mainly because of a lack of exciting updates and nerfs from Arrowhead.

After the Escalation of Freedom update failed to hit the mark, Arrowhead decided to scrap its existing plan and devised a new plan to improve the game in just 60 days. Now, the studio is creating hype for the next Patch as they plan to buff various fan-favorite weapons. It seems like their new plan is working as Helldivers 2‘s reviews on Steam are looking good once again.

Helldivers 2 reviews on Steam have been horrible for the past few months, it particularly dipped after Arrowhead Game Studios announced the PSN account linking policy. The policy was revoked, but unfortunately, the damage was done. As the game failed to satisfy the fanbase, it received even more negative reviews.

Now, finally, after so many months, the game’s reviews went from “mostly negative” to “mixed,” thanks to the announcement of Patch 01.001.007. In this patch, Arrowhead plans to make the game how it was when it was initially released. It is all set to roll out for PlayStation 5 and Windows on 17th September.

One of the main reasons why players left the game was because Arrowhead nerfed many popular weapons and Stratagems that were fun to use. To create the hype for the patch, the official X account of Arrowhead has been revealing “a buff a day” and so far, it has been confirmed that Flamethrower’s damage will be increased by 33%, the Railgun’s durable damage will increase from 60 to 225, plus its overcharging damage will be buffed from 150% to 250% and the Breaker shotgun’s stagger force will be increased from 10 to 15.

It seems like Arrowhead is finally understanding what the issue is, although players have been pointing it out for months now. The studio gave itself a 60-day deadline to improve Helldivers 2 using players’ feedback and so far, it seems like they are heading in the right direction.

The buffs to weapons are indeed exciting but there are a lot of other things that also need Arrowhead’s acknowledgement. The community is tired of fighting the bugs and bots, the concept has become quite boring and dull. This is the perfect time for Arrowhead to introduce a new enemy faction to the game as it will convince many fans to return.

The competition is stiff but Arrowhead is doing everything it can to keep the players satisfied. Do you think the studio will be able to turn things around in the coming months? Share your views in the comments!
