Cockatoos that live in places like Australia or the Philippines have natural enemies in the wild, and not just from threats of humans that capture them to be sold as pets and deforestation.

According to Cockatoo Pedia, the main predators of these gorgeous parrots include eagles, including Harpy eagles which are the biggest predator of cockatoos. They are large and strong, so they not only hunt small cockatoos but large ones as well.

Some bats also prey on cockatoos! Bats prey on cockatoos, especially baby cockatoos that freshly fledge out of the nest.

Generally, bats are nocturnal, so they mostly hunt cockatoos at night, but some bats are diurnal and hunt in daylight.

Almost all cat species, including jaguars and leopards, hunt cockatoos in the jungle. Most wild cats that hunt cockatoos are small in size and can easily climb onto large trees. Large cats hunt them when cockatoos are flying low.

Certain snake species, such as large constrictors like pythons and boas, have been known to capture and consume birds, including parrots, if they get the chance. In the wild cockatoos live in trees and the majority of snakes aren’t going to climb a tree to get their lunch, especially considering the bird could just fly away- but considering how smart Cockatoos are they know snakes aren’t their pals, which could be why the brave bird Barney in the clip above gives his toy the whats-for!
