Hidetaka Miyazaki Already Has the Perfect Plans for Armored Core 7 as FromSoftware Confirms Multiple Projects in Active Development
FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki are as good a combo as they come these days. The studio and its creative mind have been behind some of the greatest games in the last two decades, including the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring. These titles have even created their own subgenre now known as Soulsborne.
After the success of Bloodborne and Elden Ring, FromSoftware and Miyazaki took on the reins for Armored Core 6. After the success of that game, the studio is reported to be looking to make more titles in the Armored Core series, possibly Armored Core 7.
Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Studio Could Be Following Up on Armored Core 6 Soon
Hidetaka Miyazaki has a special connection to the Armored Core series, having first worked on Armored Core: Last Raven early in his career. Known for its customizable mechs and gameplay, the franchise was revived with Armored Core 6, which enjoyed critical and commercial success.
Despite this, Miyazaki believes there’s room for improvement. In previous interviews, he mentioned that while Armored Core 6 performed well, it didn’t fully capture his vision.
Miyazaki has also previously stated his strong desire to continue the Armored Core series. In a May 2024 interview, he acknowledged the success of Armored Core 6 and expressed “a strong will to continue it in the future.”

These events have led to speculation about what Armored Core 7 might look like. Miyazaki hinted at potentially big changes in the future, including a potential shift toward a more open-world format, similar to the evolution seen in Elden Ring.

While Armored Core 6 retained the mission-based gameplay that the series is known for, Armored Core 7 could break new ground by embracing a more open-world design. Miyazaki has assured fans that despite any changes, it will stay true to the identity of the series.
FromSoftware’s Future Is an Exciting One to Think About
Beyond Armored Core, FromSoft is also reportedly working on multiple new projects. Following the massive success of Elden Ring and its Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, FromSoftware has expanded its development teams to handle several new titles.
These include not only potential follow-ups to Elden Ring but also a range of other projects, some of which may be entirely new IPs. However, it’s the Armored Core series that has caught the attention of fans, especially after a job listing hinted at another mecha game in development.

Miyazaki’s leadership has been a driving force behind FromSoftware’s success, but he’s also keen on fostering new talent within the company. He has also expressed interest in allowing younger developers to take on smaller projects, potentially laying the groundwork for the studio’s future.

Is the next Armored Core game going to turn into an open-world fiesta taking after recent games like Elden Ring? That remains to be seen.
With the knowledge that the studio is now going to take on multiple projects, there is also the worry that it could turn into another Bethesda, but that also remains to be seen. The challenge will be maintaining the high standards across several projects without sacrificing the excellence fans have come to expect.
