Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Future Plans after Shadow of the Erdtree Confirm Elden Ring 2 and 3

It should be easy to believe that Hidetaka Miyazaki is not going to let go of his best-selling franchise as easily as he did in the past with Bloodborne. However, this has also got many fans wondering what is the renowned director planning next, as he has revealed in an interview how Shadow of the Erdtree is going to be the first and final DLC to Elden Ring.

While much information has not been made available yet, it remains highly likely how averting from additional DLCs can mean that the gamers are possibly going to witness a trilogy, much like the Dark Souls trilogy, one of Miyazaki’s finest works yet.

As gamers across the globe sit on the edge of their chairs patiently waiting for the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC on 21st June, Hidetaka Miyazaki has dropped a bomb on those who dreamt of getting more than one extension for the game. In an interview conducted via a Chinese outlet, Campfire Camp, the director stated-

“It’s the first and final DLC, and we have no plans to add more content to Elden Ring But it has not yet been decided whether the whole story of “Elden Ring” will be focused. Fromsoftware’s style of doing things is generally not to let the future of an IP be easily locked, or it is better to leave some possibilities. It’s just that in the case of Shadow of the Erdtree, it’s the only DLC.”

It is important to note how the mentioned quote can show different translations for readers depending on their respective web browsers. Miyazaki ultimately reveals how Shadow of the Erdtree is going to be the first and the only DLC for Elden Ring. Moreover, FromSoftware has not yet decided if they are done with the IP, which can only mean one thing for now, Elden Ring 2.

This news would also take many fans back to the past, as the studio has followed this exact path with one of their other franchises as well. As discussed, the Dark Souls trilogy has been one of the most significant stepping stones in Hidetaka Miyazaki’s career, and it is about time the director tries to replicate the same.

Shadow of the Erdtree being the only DLC for one of the most beloved games in modern times is truly saddening, but fans are now seeing the news as a blessing in disguise as it opens up the door to the franchise being eventually made into a trilogy instead, just like DS. Additionally, Dark Souls 1, the first installment in the series also had a single DLC, much to the likes of Shadow of the Erdtree, giving gamers hope that the journey of our tarnished character is not going to end anytime soon.
