Even though Bethesda’s Starfield was received positively upon its launch by fans and critics alike, reactions to the game have steadily become more divisive as time has gone on.

Public opinion on the game is at an all-time low, and Shattered Space DLC managed to make things even worse. What could save Bethesda from this mess is following FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki’s development path, which allowed them to create bangers after bangers.

FromSoftware Inc. and Hidetaka Miyazaki are names that are synonymous with phenomenal boss fights, challenging gameplay and quality world-building.

Over the years, Miyazaki and his team have given us top-notch gaming experiences that push the boundaries of the medium. What has allowed the company to establish itself as the top dog in the industry is Miyazaki’s unique approach to game development.

Unlike other studios, Miyazaki never imposes control over the artists and developers at FromSoftware. Although he explains his vision to them, he lets his team take care of things if they find something new and compelling.

Of course, If I don’t get what I want, I start giving more specific descriptions and I might even start drawing things on the whiteboard, but even then I’d never go so far as to say “it has to be this colour or this shape”

Miyazaki’s tendency for flexibility in game development has allowed FromSoftware to flex its innovation and creativity and give us immersive worlds that feel unbelievable.

It’s a unique approach and something you wouldn’t see at a company like Bethesda. Not only does Todd Howard push himself, but he often makes developers follow a rigid structure, and all the work is checked a hundred times to ensure that Bethesda’s “standards” are matched.

Sure, you can say this route does allow for consistency, but the only consistent thing Bethesda has been doing is making terrible games. Take a look at its recent releases, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Starfield. All have failed to deliver in some way or another.

Let’s hope that Bethesda and Howard can empower their developers to bring new creative visions to life with the same degree of freedom FromSoftware allows. This will undoubtedly allow the studio to save Starfield from its downward spiral and its upcoming Elder Scrolls 6.

The Next Bethesda Title Might Not Match Expectations

It’s already confirmed that Howard and his team are working on Elder Scrolls 6. Its predecessor, Skyrim, was a blockbuster hit, with many still playing the title despite the fact that it’s 13 years old. As we continue to see more rumors, it seems like the game might not match the community’s expectations in the long run.

While chatting with Kiwi Talkz, Bruce Smith, a former senior game designer at Bethesda, stated that the next Elder Scrolls won’t meet fan expectations. According to him, the studio’s history of developing genre-defining RPGs puts the Elder Scrolls 6 in a bad spot since there are so many great games preceding it.

Elder Scrolls 6 is undoubtedly going to be an amazing game, but it’s going to be compared to all the previous games that Bethesda made.

Expectations even for the space-RPG were quite high, which could foreshadow how the eventual launch of the next Elder Scrolls might go. For any developer, it’s frustrating to keep up with high hopes.

The long silence that has disturbed the development of Elder Scrolls 6 is a good sign that the company is now waiting until the time is right to open up about details.
