Silent Hill is moving forward with another movie adaptation despite the mixed to negative reviews of the earlier films. According to Variety, Return to Silent Hill released the first look of its famed villain, the notorious Pyramid Head at the Cannes Film Festival. The new film is helmed by Christophe Gans, who also directed the first film in the franchise.

Fans were super excited to see Pyramid Head on the screen. The humanoid monster wears a red helmet and comes in full butcher’s attire, which is enough to terrify any person. The character wields the Great Knife and the Great Spear. Interestingly, it is a manifestation of the main character, James Sunderland’s guilt and desire for punishment, making Pyramid Head one hell of a psychological villain.

One fan on X shared how the attire, especially the helmet, looked very similar to the games. Another fan hoped that the film would be remotely as good as the game. Other fans also praised how the movie nailed the central villain with the looks. Some fans were curious to know more about the character James Sunderland. They wanted someone with emotional range to play the character, like Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner 2049. Some fan reactions read:

The new film stars Jeremy Irvine as James Sunderland and Hannah Emily Anderson as his separated soulmate Mary. Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, and Laura Holden were the stars of the first Silent Hill film. The second film included actors like Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Martin Donovan, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Return to Silent Hill is written by director Christophe Gans alongside Sandra Vo-Anh and William Josef Schneider. According to the synopsis, the film will be a psychological horror story that takes place in a ghosted town. The main character, James Sunderland’s search for Mary forms the crux of the story, and he has to endure different monsters to achieve his goal. The synopsis read (via Deadline):

When a mysterious letter from Mary calls James back to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. While James desperately searches for Mary, he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town. But as he descends deeper into the darkness the secrets he uncovers lead to a horrifying truth, and James finds himself struggling to hold on long enough to save his one true love.

The first film grossed $100.6 million at the box office (via Box Office Mojo), while the second film collected $55.9 million (via The Numbers). Alongside the movie adaptation, Konami has announced plans to reboot the Silent Hill 2 game.

Silent Hill is available on Netflix, while Silent Hill: Revelation is now available for streaming on Tubi.
