How to Beat Mohg, The Omen (Leyndell Encounter)

This is a quick guide on how to beat Mohg, the Omen during the Leyndell encounter in Elden Ring. FromSoftware used the same old attacks and moves of the other Mohg variant for this fight. Players who defeat it should find it easier and know the best ways to counter and survive.

Seasoned Soulslike players interested in the main story will not have to worry about facing this optional boss; however, Mohg, the Omen is a prerequisite to unlock a specific ending, and some might find an excuse to fight this enemy regardless.

Where Can You Find Mohg, the Omen?

The location of Mohg, the Omen in Elden Ring
Elden Ring players should have great navigation skills entering the Subterranean-Shunning Grounds.

The Tarnished can find Mohg, the Omen underneath Leyndell, the Royal Capital around the Subterranean-Shunning Grounds. FromSoftware did not hold back adding extreme attention to detail from the open plains of Limgrave to the sewers of the Royal Capital of Leyndell giving Elden Ring the massive scope and scale the player base always wanted.

Players can start their trek at the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace. Head down a stairwell to a set of double doors and make a hard left. Players can hop off rooftops until they see a well leading to an underground cave system called the Subterranean-Shunning Grounds with torches illuminating the way. The area will be crawling with smaller enemies and a few Sites of Grace for the Tarnished to use.

Players can kill these enemies taking most of their time or ignore them and keep heading downwards until they see a metal lift that will take them to a lower level. They will eventually come upon another Site of Grace and beyond it is a fog wall where Mohg is waiting. The Tarnished should have the right gear equipped and avoid underestimating this optional foe.

How to Prepare to Fight Mohg, The Omen?

Mohg, the Omen in Elden Ring
Mohg, the Omen can be slow and sluggish.

Elden Ring players should not charge into an arena without a plan or a good strategy. Fortunately, Mohg is not the fastest enemy boss in the game and there are a few good options for which weapons to use against this overpowered boss. Players should be at least at level 100 or higher to withstand incoming attacks and deal more damage.

Tip

Before facing Mohg, the Omen, players should choose the right Spirit Ash to back them up in the fight. Preferably an ally with a stronger defense and built like a tank.

Mohg, the Omen is sluggish, and his slow mobility is the player’s greatest advantage. Players can run laps around the boss; however, the arena is quite cramped and the Tarnished could have trouble keeping its distance.

Suggested Loadout

  • Comet Azur
  • Mohg’s Shackle
  • Rotten Breath
  • Rock Sling
  • Cerulean Tear
  • Flamedrake Talisman

The Tarnished can defeat Mohg, the Omen with the right tricks and weaponry.

Mohg, the Omen has a handful of attacks that players should be worried about. Both variants of Mohg have the same moves that can be countered or dodged like the blood claw where the boss slices its claws in the air followed by a brief explosion. Players can back away from the attack and let it play out.

Optional Yes
Best Level to Be 100+
Weak to Physical Damage
Difficulty 6/10
Mohg, the Omen is quite powerful despite being slow.
How to Cheese Mohg, the Omen? Players can use Mohg’s Shackle to temporarily keep the boss in place for a few short seconds for players to deal physical damage.
Rewards Bloodflame’s Talon and 100000 Runes
Worth the Trouble? Yes

The ranged or magic attack strategy is arguably the best way to go. After walking through the fog wall, players can summon a Mimic Tear or a durable Spirit Ash to distract Mohg long enough for them to use Comet Azur and melt the boss. This strategy is effective against Metyr, Mother of Fingers in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

The boss can hurl projectiles toward the Tarnished and twirl his trident around which can be easily evaded by rolling in the direction of the attack. While Mohg is distracted, players can blast the boss from behind with a powerful beam of Comet Azur and can chop the lengthy health bar in half after a few minutes.

After a few perfectly timed uses of Mohg’s Shackle (you can use it up to two times) to stun the enemy or gain enough distance to use either Rock Sling or Comet Azur, Mohg will be another fallen optional boss. Elden Ring players must have enough healing items and time their dodges perfectly.

The Tarnished will be rewarded with 100000 Runes and the Bloodflame’s Talon for defeating Mohg, the Omen. Players who already bested the other variant will likely struggle less against this version, especially with the right loadout.
