How to Get Free Packs in Pokémon TCG Pocket
Opening packs is one of the absorbing attractions in Pokémon TCG Pocket, and a point comes where you can’t open more. You will run out, but there are different ways to get your hands on extra free packs in Pokémon Pocket.
Pokémon TCG Pocket scratches a much-needed itch—opening packs and battling. No longer do you need to deal with the physical nature of cards, collections, and fighting someone in person with your best deck. Pokémon Pocket is a virtual Victory Road capturing the heart and spirit of the Pokémon TCG world in the palm of your hands.
Conquering solo battles and PvP is a thrill, but to get to this point, cards are needed. You need to open packs, and I’ve rounded up the fastest ways to get and open more packs.
Best Ways to Get Free Packs in Pokémon TCG Pocket
To get free packs in Pokémon TCG Pocket, you need to complete Solo Battles, obtain Hourglasses, grind missions, and level up—amongst other a myriad of other methods detailed below.
Hourglasses
Special Hourglasses can be gotten in a variety of ways and their purpose is to reduce the in-game timer counting down the seconds, minutes, and hours until your next free Pokémon TCG Pocket pack. While Wonder Hourglasses specifically target Wonder-Pick waiting times, we want to focus on collecting “Pack Hourglass” currency to gain packs faster.
Battle
Under the “Battle” sub-menu in Pokémon TCG Pocket, the “Solo” aspect of the game mode has a ton of “Step-Up Battles” to overcome—each with a bunch of sub-objectives. Completing these gives you handy rewards—including Hourglasses—and Shop tickets, which can be used to purchase Hourglasses from the Shop.
Level up
You start Pokémon TCG Pocket as a Level 1 newbie, and you can level up by opening packs, completing battles, and attempting the long-odds-headache of Wonder Picks. So far, each time I’ve levelled up, I’ve received an assortment of goodies:
- Pack Hourglasses
- Poké Gold
- Rewind Watch
- Wonder Hourglasses
As I’ve explained, we want Pack Hourglasses to speed up the wait time, and Poke Gold can also be used to buy packs too—but more on this soon.
Complete Special Events Offering Promo Packs
The first major Event in Pokémon TCG Pocket was the “Lapras ex Drop Event.” You received rewards for completing the increasing difficulty of its challenges. This included Shop Tokens, Shinedust (for Flair customization), and Promo Packs.
Promo Packs only offer a small handful of promo-exclusive Pokémon not normally obtainable in usual boosters. However, opening them maintains the randomized lottery of card collecting I yearn for, it feeds the craving of opening said packs, and it gives you bragging rights for collecting special cards that could become hard to collect once the event is done.
Keep an eye out for more Events, which are bound to offer more Promo cards and rare packs.
Monthly Codes
Most free-to-play mobile games commonly share a similar quality—free-reward-offering monthly codes. As of Nov. 6, Pokémon TCG Pocket hasn’t added any monthly codes. It’s not a guarantee Creatures and DeNA and The Pokémon Company have monthly codes in mind either—so keep checking back to Insider Gaming for the latest on this potential development.
Play the Waiting Game
Unfortunately, this isn’t a literal game, I’m encouraging you to embrace the concept of “patience is a virtue.” I find if I want to open a pack, I take my mind off of Pokémon TCG Pocket and go and do something else—but this says more about me and my addiction to this game.
Premium Pass
I’ve saved these two for last as technically they aren’t free, but they are a fast way to free packs. If you pay the monthly Premium Pass fee, you get access to premium missions—offering unique rewards and goodies—as well as an extra, daily free pack. You get three packs each day if you have the Premium Pass, giving you an extra 30 packs a month—adding over 150 additional cards to your pile.
Again, my use of the word free is subjective, sure, but if you’re looking for the fastest ways to open packs, this is one.
Google Points
If you’ve ever used bought something from the Google Play Store such as an app, a microtransaction, or subscription, chances are you have Google Points. If this is the case, let me show you how to turn those points into free coupons to use in Pokémon TCG Pocket:
- Go to the Google Play Store.
- In the search bar, type in “Pokémon TCG Pocket.”
- Press on Pokémon TCG Pocket.
- Underneath where it presumably has the “Uninstall” and “Play” options, there should be a display advertising “Use Play Points.”
- Depending on how many Google Points you have, press on the applicable coupon to purchase it using your points.
- Once the transaction is complete, go onto Pokémon TCG Pocket.
- Head to the “Shop.”
- In the bottom-right corner of the Shop, press on “Purchase Poké Gold.”
- Pick whichever purchase suits you best, and once it gets to the payment screen, make sure you have the coupon and it’s applied to the transaction.
- You should have a reduced (if not free) purchase of Poké Gold to use on packs!
